Days Like These

It's days like these where I see how blessed I am exactly, with the children I have and the way I was raised. I look around and see kids around who boss their parents around....and even worse...people who are barely more than strangers! I don't want to get specific, but let's just say I had some personal experience with that kind of challenging kid yesterday. Oh my. After the "run-in", or several...I asked my kids what would happen if they talked to someone else that way and without hesitation, they knew.

I am shocked at kids these days. You watch Supernanny and think SURELY these kids are few and far between, but they are not. I'm afraid that they are the "norm" these days and that makes me sad. When given direction in a loving way and discipline in the same way, children are so pure and beautiful. Sure, they mess up at times....but for a child to never smile. Always wear a scowl. That breaks my heart. I was so aggravated yesterday and at the same time proud of my own children. No, I am not a perfect parent and my children are and never will be perfect, but I can know without a doubt that they have respect for me and others around. I can leave them with friends knowing that my friend will be listened to and respected. They may have little "tiffs" between each other, but they love each other and have each others' backs.

After the one incident, I saw another one at Hobby Lobby. It makes me sick to hear the way these children speak and act towards their parents and how belittled those parents are made to feel when all they want to do is love their children, but just can't quite figure out how to balance the friend vs. parent role. I hope they figure it out soon...because at the rate it's going, teenage years won't be pretty.

I don't want to offend anyone reading this because that's not what it's meant to do. It's just a note to self that I am BLESSED with sweet, wonderful children...and I must be doing SOMETHING right!!! I sure love those babies!

Heart 4 My Home said...

Thank you so much for visiting my blog. I love to hear from my readers. It truly does make my day.

You know I think more and more families are getting fed up with the lack of discipline and respect in our youth (and adults for that matter) and are tired of it being the socially accepted demeanor.

If more stand up for what's right and start with their family and correct what's wrong but been allowed then we would have a grand start to reformation. We don't need governmental control in our homes, we need the parental.
